“Securing the future”,
is the theme of the energy sector’s largest industry gathering in Berlin.
How can a resilient and affordable energy supply be achieved in Germany?
The same guiding principle also underpins the KRITIS conference, which is entitled ‘New threats, new responsibilities: resilience and security for critical infrastructure’.
The situation
As early as May 2025, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) classified the cyber threat to critical infrastructure as high. Since then, the risks are likely to have increased further due to the global political situation.
This is borne out in practice: “In the energy sector, we come under attack on a daily basis. Whether through cyberattacks, espionage or sabotage,” reported Ingbert Liebing (Chief Executive) at the Municipal Utilities Congress (VKU), according to press reports.
Security is therefore a top priority.
With NIS2 and the KRITIS umbrella law, a legal framework has been created that poses major challenges for companies. What was once merely a regulatory obligation has long since become an existential necessity for security of supply in Germany.
